Pastor Tobi Adegboyega’s name has been buzzing online after reports surfaced claiming the UK government plans to deport him to Nigeria.

The rumors, tied to a £1.87 million financial scandal at his now-closed church, sparked heated debates. But the clergyman’s lawyer, Dele Olanwale, has stepped in to clear the air.

Olanwale called the deportation claims baseless, dismissing them as ignorant. He described reports from outlets like The Telegraph UK as sensational and inaccurate.

“I couldn’t stop laughing when I read that Tobi faces deportation,” the lawyer said. “Deportation is for criminals, and Tobi Adegboyega is not a criminal.”

The controversy began after UK authorities shut down Adegboyega’s Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church for failing to account for £1.87 million.

However, Olanwale clarified that his client was never personally found guilty of any wrongdoing. Instead, the legal issues involved the church as an organization.

The lawyer emphasized that Adegboyega has lived in the UK for over 20 years without a single criminal conviction. He highlighted his contributions to the British community, portraying him as a misunderstood leader facing unfounded backlash.

“Many of his adversaries are from the African community,” Olanwale added. “Society has a problem—it loves to see people fall, even pastors.”

The statement also criticized social media users for spreading misinformation. “Sensationalism is idiocy,” Olanwale declared, urging people to base their opinions on facts instead of assumptions.

The online reaction to the lawyer’s defense was divided. Some questioned Adegboyega’s immigration status. “Does he have papers or not?” one commenter, @Lakesyde_, asked.

Others criticized the joy some seem to take in seeing African leaders face challenges. “Africans love celebrating their brothers’ downfall,” wrote @Sambest0706447.

However, not everyone was sympathetic. A user, @Meg60601189, referenced Adegboyega’s political affiliations, saying, “Your client supports Tinubu. Let him come back and enjoy what he endorses.”

For now, Adegboyega remains in the UK, fighting off the backlash. Whether the rumors hold any weight or not, one thing is clear—he’s a polarizing figure.

His lawyer’s strong words might have shifted the narrative, but the court of public opinion is still deliberating.
