Through its health ministry, Russia has just announced that it will distribute its new cancer vaccine in 2025 for free to patients who need it.

The purpose of this vaccine is to treat existing cancers and not work like other vaccines, which only try to prevent cancer. This vaccine may be the first step to curing cancer permanently.

About 75-80% of any tumor size will be reduced by the vaccine, and tumor progression will slow down. Although this vaccine won’t be a generalized one, it will be personalized according to the patient and cancer type.

The Director of the Gamaleya Research Centre in Russia, Alexander Gintsburg, confirmed this by saying, “This is not a universal vaccine. It is a personalized vaccine not only for each type of cancer but also for each respective kind of cancer patient. It’s a therapeutic vaccine and does not protect against infectious diseases. It treats individuals who suffer from oncological diseases.”

Alexander took a step further to explain how the vaccine works and why it is a personalized vaccine; he said, “As a result, the patient’s immune system recognizes these cells, which carry cancerous markers, and begins to destroy them with the help of cytotoxic lymphocytes—special immune cells that essentially devour the cells with tumour markers. This is accordingly the meaning of this vaccine.”

This announcement has generated a lot of excitement and sighs of relief in the medical world as the end to cancer seems to be nearer. However, the Russian government has not released the distribution plans for the vaccine.
