According to reports, the Nigerian Air Force has mistakenly killed members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (ZSCPG), local vigilantes, and some residents of Tungar Kara community in Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, during one of its airstrikes targeted at bandits.
The airstrike missed its target and instead claimed about 20 lives, leaving others injured, according to reports gathered by NaijaEyes.
An eyewitness who was somehow safe from the Nigerian Air Force airstrike said the bandits had already fled the scene as they met resistance from the vigilantes, only for the airstrike to target them in error.
A total of 16 bodies have been recovered so far in a rescue operation, with no number as to how many have been killed in the airstrike from the Nigerian Air Force.
Residents of Tungar Kara are now calling for an investigation into the tragic error and for support to be provided to the affected families.
There has been no official statement from the Nigerian Air Force, as this won’t be the first time an airstrike has missed its target at bandits/terrorists, killing innocent lives who are just trying to protect themselves.
