Tinubu orders governors to enact wage awards for Nigerian workers.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged state governors to begin implementing wage awards to alleviate economic hardship for the people. The appeal was made during his speech in Minna at the launch of the agricultural mechanization revolution for food security and the unveiling of the remodeled domestic terminal of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport. He emphasized the importance of all states adopting the wage awards, noting that the National Executive Council would also endorse it.

He clarified that implementing the wage awards at the state level would offer significant relief to the public without triggering inflationary pressures.

He stated, “If all states have been honoring the wage awards

He stated, “If all states have been honoring the wage awards while awaiting the determination of the new minimum wage, it’s important that they start implementing it now. This additional income, along with their current earnings, will ease the burden on the public.”

He emphasized that this was not an order but an appeal to the states to take action. He highlighted that gradually introducing the new salary wage would prevent inflationary impacts. He urged sub-national governments to collaborate, with the National Executive Council (NEC) expected to endorse this approach.

The President reassured that measures like student loans and other economic relief efforts were in progress to address hunger and unemployment. He affirmed, “We are finalizing plans for student loans, unemployment benefits for graduates, and social security for the elderly and vulnerable. Our goal is to alleviate hunger and improve livelihoods.”

Tinubu also outlined plans for a comprehensive program to tackle violent attacks

Tinubu also outlined plans for a comprehensive program to tackle violent attacks, cattle rustling, and related issues. He pledged to inaugurate the Livestock Change program in Nigeria within the next few weeks, aiming to turn these challenges into economic opportunities.

He stated, “Give me two to three weeks. You will be part of the inauguration of the Livestock Change in Nigeria. I understand the economic harm caused by roaming cows eating crops and vegetation. It’s painful, but by reorienting herders and providing proper cattle rearing facilities, we can address this. Governors should allocate lands, and as President, I’m committed to providing a comprehensive program to solve this problem.”
