Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been reportedly kidnapped. The incident occurred on Friday shortly after Aziegbemi attended a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki in Benin City.
The Edo State Government confirmed the abduction on Saturday, March 16, 2024. The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, issued a statement, stating that the state government is actively working to secure Aziegbemi’s release.
Nehikhare mentioned that the government is collaborating closely with security agencies to address the situation, labeling the kidnapping as regrettable. “The Government is working closely with security agencies to ensure his safe release and return to his family,” the statement assured.
The commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering security measures across the state to combat criminal activities. He urged residents to report any suspicious individuals or activities and assured them of the government’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
Regarding the incident, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, indicated that the Command would issue a statement soon. However, he neither confirmed nor denied the kidnapping.
