The Benue Assembly rejects Governor Alia’s nominee due to a Facebook post insulting the Tiv tribe.
The Benue State House of Assembly rejected Vincent Gisaor, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s nominee for the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, due to an insulting Facebook post directed at the Tiv tribe. Gisaor was one of eight nominees submitted for screening.
During the plenary session, member Cephas Dyako highlighted Gisaor’s derogatory remarks about the Tiv ethnic group in the post. Despite Gisaor’s explanation that he was quoting an elderly woman, the lawmakers deemed him unfit for the position and urged the governor to nominate someone else. Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh emphasized that Gisaor’s post reflected his own opinion, leading to the decision to reject his nomination.
