A young, bright student receives N1 million for being the top graduate at UNICAL.

Takon Roland Osaji, a bright Nigerian, received a N1 million prize for being the top graduate at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). Studying History, Osaji achieved a CGPA of 4.85, making him the university’s best student for the 2023/2024 academic year. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi, revealed this among 10,117 graduating students at the 36th Convocation Ceremony.

Osaji won the N1 million SUG Prize for the Overall Best First Class Graduate. Among the 9,722 Bachelor Degrees awarded, 46 were First Class (34 Male, 12 Female); 1,968 Second Class Upper; 6,439 Second Class Lower; 1,117 Third Class; and 152 Pass degrees. Additionally, 12 females and 34 males received First Class degrees.

At the Post-Graduate level, 1,482 degrees and diplomas were awarded: 457 PhDs, 807 Master’s, and 218 Post-Graduate Diplomas.

In another event, Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri, matriculated over 1,300 students for the 2023/2024 academic session. Prof. (Mrs) Stella Lemchi, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, described the occasion as historical, marking the end of collaboration with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, after over forty years.

Prof. Lemchi congratulated the new students, urging them to uphold integrity, respect, and tolerance. She highlighted hostel renovations and emphasized the institution’s commitment to quality education.

In his address, Prof. Joachim Omeje, Dean, Faculty of Education, UNN, represented the Vice Chancellor. He congratulated Alvan Ikoku University of Education and assured continued cooperation. He urged students to make a positive impact in their endeavors and represent their origins with pride.
