Nigerian-born US Naval Officer Michael Aregbesola passed away in the Red Sea after falling overboard during an operation. The US Navy confirmed his death on Saturday, stating that Aregbesola was assigned to the “Swamp Foxes” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74.
His Journey
He was deployed with a detachment aboard Mason, operating in the US 5th Fleet since November. Aregbesola, of Florida, joined the Navy in July 2020 and reported to HSM-74 in December 2020. Cmdr. Eric Kohut, HSM-74 commanding officer, praised Aregbesola’s selfless character and warrior spirit. Aregbesola’s journey from joblessness to becoming a US Navy sailor was documented in a Twitter post in October 2020.
