Patience, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has denied that her husband will run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Mrs. Jonathan stated that since Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi, backed Jonathan’s 2011 presidential campaign, her family will support Tinubu’s reelection rather than run for office.

There have been calls for Jonathan to run for president again every election cycle since he left office in 2015. The Nigeria Rescue Mission Organization’s president, Dr. Jibril Mustapha, issued the most recent appeal in April of this year, urging Jonathan to accept the calls to run for president.

“As the nation prepares for the 2027 elections, the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation believes that now is the time for all stakeholders to come together and support a candidate who can genuinely represent the interests of all Nigerians.

“We urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider this call and to step forward as a candidate who can unite our country and lead us towards a brighter future,” Mustapha said in a statement.

However, Mrs. Patience rejected the call for her husband to run for president again, stating that she would prefer to support Tinubu’s re-election in the spirit of “turn-by-turn.” She made this statement on Saturday at the Abuja event, which was attended by President Tinubu’s daughter, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
