FG awaits probe report on fake degrees, threatens arrests.
Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman stated that security agencies will pursue individuals with fake university certificates once the investigative committee submits its report. The committee, set up by the Federal Government, is probing activities of certificate racketeers, following an exposé by Daily Nigerian on degree mills in Benin Republic. The government has banned accreditation of degrees from Benin Republic and Togo. The committee is also investigating Nigerian private universities established in the last 15 years. The minister emphasized this during the first quarterly citizens’ engagement in Abuja, aimed at enhancing awareness of ministry activities and fostering transparency and accountability. Minister of State for Education Dr. Tanko Sununu highlighted the engagement’s goal of improving efficiency and addressing operational challenges.
