Singer Davido says he is Igbo by blood

    David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is a Nigerian musician who has stated that he is of Igbo descent in response to a contentious social media post that criticised his affiliation with the Igbo community.

    The musician was warned by user @Yakbel on X on Tuesday not to keep tight relationships with Igbos because they will eventually turn on him.

    Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest,” the user wrote. “Yoruba boy dey frolic with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them. You can never satisfy Ibos ooo. IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”

    Davido responded quickly and bluntly, dismissing the tribal mentality with the words, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”

    Since then, the singer’s remarks have generated a lot of responses, with many applauding him for rejecting tribalism, divisive language and reaffirming solidarity across Nigeria’s ethnic divide.

    Meanwhile, after thanking Elder Bright Chimezie for inspiring his verse on “With you” a few days earlier, Davido hosted him on Monday. The singer was previously seen in a video appreciating the music legend Bright Chimezie and telling him of how he inspired him on his most recent track.
