Lagos High Court to begin annual vacation on July 21 – Registrar

The announcement was made in a notice issued by the Chief Registrar, Mr. T. A. Elias, in accordance with Order 49 Rule 4(d) of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019. During the eight-week vacation, judges will be assigned to various judicial divisions to handle urgent matters.
The Registrar emphasized the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring continued access to justice during this period through the organized deployment of vacation judges. ### Judges Assigned to Six Judicial Divisions The judiciary has appointed specific vacation judges to address urgent matters in different judicial divisions during the vacation.
#### Ikeja Division – Hon. Justice M. A. Dada (Mrs.): July 21 – August 1 – Hon. Justice R. A. Oshodi: August 4 – August 15 – Hon. Justice Y. R. Pinheiro (Mrs.): August 18 – August 29 – Hon. Additional Information The Chief Registrar noted that the Criminal Division may continue to hold sessions during the vacation.

If the assigned judge is unavailable, a vacation judge can be appointed to address urgent criminal matters. Urgent civil matters may also be heard during the vacation, except on Sundays or public holidays, as long as they are deemed urgent or if all parties agree to proceed.
Applications for such urgent hearings should be made by summons in chambers, either before a vacation judge or the judge handling the main case. The 2025 annual vacation of the Lagos State High Court will conclude on Friday, September 12, with the 2025/2026 Legal Year beginning on Monday, September 22.
The New Legal Year Service is scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025.
