Internet usage declines to 694,804.54 terabytes.
In February 2024, Nigeria’s active mobile subscribers totaled 219.7 million, while internet usage decreased to 694,804.54 terabytes (TB), marking the country’s first decline in 11 months. This dip occurred despite marginal increases in broadband penetration and mobile internet subscriptions.
The increase in mobile subscriptions was led by MTN, which gained 1.1 million new subscriptions, followed by Airtel and Globacom. However, 9mobile lost 151,517 subscribers during the month.
Broadband penetration rose to 43.08 percent in February, with total broadband subscriptions reaching 93.39 million. Meanwhile, mobile internet subscriptions increased to 162.81 million.
Although there was a slight decline in internet usage, Nigeria’s reliance on digital services remains high, driven by factors such as smartphone penetration and increased online activities, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The country is expected to continue experiencing growth in internet usage, fueled by factors like the rollout of new technologies, including 5G, and the increasing popularity of data-heavy services like video streaming and online gaming.
