President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with the suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other state assembly members in an attempt to resolve the state’s ongoing political crisis.
Since the president proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, Governor Fubara and President Tinubu have not been spotted together till their private meeting at the Presidential Villa.

Tinubu suspended the state House of Assembly, the governor, and his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, during that proclamation, claiming their incapacity to cooperate and the escalating security concerns.
Following the declaration was the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the activities of the state, in the person of Vice Admiral Ikot-Ete Ibas (rtd).
Photographs that were made public following the meetings showed the president, governor, and minister smiling together, raising speculations that the meeting marked a turning point in attempts to promote reconciliation and peace in the state.
