Tinubu’s government demands ex-Kogi governor Yahaya Bello surrender to EFCC.
The federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, issues a stern warning against obstructing the EFCC in its lawful duties. Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, emphasizes this in a statement, following the resistance encountered during attempts to arrest former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello on corruption allegations.
The charges against Bello include the conversion of funds belonging to the Kogi State government and the indirect use of proceeds of crime for property acquisition. The EFCC expresses frustration over the resistance faced during the execution of the arrest warrant, citing Governor Usman Ododo’s intervention. Fagbemi reaffirms the EFCC’s authority to invite individuals for interrogation and urges cooperation, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law. He condemns any attempts to impede law enforcement efforts and underscores the need for adherence to legal processes to maintain Nigeria’s integrity internationally.
