A former governor of Jigawa State and PDP chieftain has stated that he would be willing to back Mr. Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election if he were to become the coalition’s standard bearer.
This follows after the Middle Belt Forum stated that they might be forced to continue with Peter Obi because the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election has a history of honouring his word.

“If the coalition produces Peter Obi or anyone else committed to rescuing Nigeria, I will support them,” Lamido said in response to a query on whether he would back Obi, who has pledged to serve a single four-year term if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
The former Jigawa state governor added that despite his willingness to support Peter Obi, he still remains a member of the PDP. “We ought to have moved past regional and ethnic sentiments” he said.
Leadership should be about competence and vision, not geography. What has the North gained from producing the most presidents if the region remains underdeveloped? I’m open to any arrangement that can confront the APC and rescue Nigeria. I’ll support those who share that goal,” he further explained

Similarly, the Middle Belt Forum has also declared its support for Peter Obi, stating that because the North has few other options, they may continue to support Peter Obi and his pledge to serve one term if elected president of the nation in 2027 because of his reputation for keeping his word.
Dr. Bitrus Pogu, the National President of MBF, insisted that since any attempt to develop a candidate from the North may fail, the North would be forced to choose a candidate from the South that they could trust.

According to him, they might back Peter Obi because of his pledge or former President Goodluck Jonathan, if he is permitted, and because the law will allow him to serve one term.
