Dele Momodu, a seasoned journalist and strong member of the PDP, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that antidemocratic elements have taken over the party.
Momodu said his decision to leave the party was made effective immediately in a letter dated July 17, 2025, which was sent to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” the letter reads. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International and a former PDP presidential candidate, thanked the ward-level party leadership for their unwavering support over the years.
His switch to the ADC signals a dramatic change in Edo State politics and gives the ongoing realignments in the run-up to the general elections in 2027 more impetus.

Momodu’s switch is coming only one day after a party chieftain Atiku Abubakar tendered his official resignation.
Since joining the PDP in 2021, Momodu has taken an active part in party events and national discussions. His departure comes after a string of high-profile individuals resigned because they were fed up with the internal dynamics of the party.
