During the 2025 Annual Tree Planting Campaign, the Foundation’s Chairman, Malam Usman Ya’u, highlighted the initiative’s aim to combat the growing impact of windstorms, erosion, and climate change in the region.
Now in its fourth year, the campaign is focused on curbing desertification, particularly in Darazo, which Ya’u described as “one of the most environmentally vulnerable areas in Bauchi State.”
“For years, this region has lost its natural vegetation. Most of the greenery you see today is a result of artificial planting, necessitated by harsh climatic conditions,” he explained.
Ya’u highlighted the Muhammadu Buhari Bypass community as one of the hardest hit by soil erosion and windstorms due to unchecked environmental degradation.
He said the tree planting initiative is part of a long-term strategy to protect such at-risk communities from environmental hazards.
The event also featured an environmental awareness session, where experts and religious leaders emphasized the moral and spiritual obligation to care for the environment.
Malam Malami Yakubu, Provost of Darazo College of Education, spoke on the ecological importance of trees, noting their role in producing oxygen, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and preventing soil erosion.
Alhaji Hassan Tilde, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, represented by the party’s Publicity Secretary Alhaji Adamu Jalla, called on community members to take responsibility for nurturing the trees, stressing their long-term value for both society and the environment.
The Tasallah Foundation urged residents to see tree care as a collective duty, adding that protecting these new plantings is essential for building lasting environmental resilience in the region.
