British boxing star Anthony Joshua is ready to return to the ring on home soil this September. Six months after his knockout victory over Francis Ngannou, Joshua has confirmed a London fight against one of four potential opponents.
Decision Day on June 1st
All four contenders for the September bout will be in action on June 1st, as part of the undercard for the highly anticipated undisputed light heavyweight showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
Let’s Meet the Contenders
Here’s a closer look at the four boxers vying for a chance to face Joshua:
-
Daniel Dubois (UK): Nicknamed “Dynamite,” Dubois is a former WBA (Regular) heavyweight champion aiming for another title shot. He recently faced Oleksandr Usyk in a controversial fight where a knockdown was ruled a low blow, handing Usyk the win. Dubois boasts a record of 20 wins (19 KOs) and 2 losses.
-
Filip Hrgović (Croatia): Undefeated Croatian heavyweight “El Animal” has a perfect record of 17 wins (14 KOs).
-
Zhilei Zhang (China): “Big Bang” Zhang is a Chinese heavyweight with a record of 26 wins and 2 losses. He previously held the WBO interim heavyweight title but lost his last fight to Joseph Parker. He’ll be facing Deontay Wilder next.
-
Deontay Wilder (USA): A fight between Joshua and Wilder, nicknamed “The Bronze Bomber,” is a highly anticipated clash. Their previous attempt at a number one contender bout fell through, with Joshua defeating Otto Wallin and Wilder losing to Parker on the same night. Ngannou was ultimately chosen for Joshua’s last fight. Joshua has expressed interest in facing Wilder if he impresses in his June 1st fight.
The Stage is Set
With the potential opponents revealed and a June 1st showdown deciding Joshua’s September fight, boxing fans eagerly await the next chapter in his heavyweight journey.
