The newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, is likely to opt for a foreign assistant coach. According to reports from SCORENigeria, Finidi has been granted autonomy by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to select his coaching staff.
The former Ajax and Real Betis winger is determined to collaborate with individuals who can significantly contribute to achieving his goals as the head coach of the Eagles.
Former internationals such as Emmanuel Amuneke, Daniel Amokachi, and Michael Nsien have been mentioned as potential members of the new technical team.
Meanwhile, the Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board has tasked Finidi George with ensuring the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team is yet to secure a victory in the qualifiers, having drawn their first two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“In the month of June, Nigeria will face crucial matches against South Africa and Benin,” remarked Ikpeba, a member of the NFF technical committee, to SuperSport. “We are currently at a disadvantage after drawing our initial two World Cup qualifiers, so we must win the upcoming matches.”
