President Bola Tinubu has made wide claims that his reforms have put an end to corruption in Nigeria.
Tinubu claimed his changes have increased income, reinforced Nigeria’s finances, and made the country’s economy more competitive when addressing investors in Brazil on Tuesday.
“It is necessary to emphasise here that the reforms I’ve embarked upon since I took over in Nigeria have been very impactful,” Tinubu said.
“I can beat my chest for that. It was initially painful, but today the result is blossoming. It’s getting clearer to the people. We have more money for the economy — no more corruption.
“We have the central bank governor here; you don’t have to know him before you get the foreign exchange you need.
“The speculators are out in our currency market. The door is open for business. Easy in, easy out.”
TINUBU’S REFORMS
The present since assuming office in May 2023 has implemented a number of economic reforms to varying degrees of response.
Additionally, the president abolished the petrol subsidy system, which he characterised as unsustainable and a chokehold on Nigeria’s economy.
The president claimed that subsidies were depleting the nation’s resources and advancing unscrupulous agendas, such as facilitating the smuggling of fuel into neighbouring nations.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) stated in July that more than N1 trillion saved by eliminating subsidies is being used directly to fund specific social welfare and relief initiatives for poor Nigerians.
The administration has, however, been slammed with corruption allegations.
