Egbe community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State was thrown into panic on Thursday as residents staged a protest over worsening insecurity challenges and the recent killings that have plagued the area.
Residents expressed concern and outrage over what they regarded as worsening security conditions, and the demonstration came after a troubling wave of violent attacks.

Although Egbe, which borders Kwara State, has long been regarded as one of Kogi West’s most tranquil and hard-working towns, the recent events have caused tension in the area.
The demonstration followed the murder of three police officers at a community checkpoint by unidentified gunmen.
SP William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the event to reporters in Lokoja on Wednesday, saying it happened early in the morning.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that three of our officers on duty were killed today in Egbe; a border community with Kwara State, by yet to be identified gunmen,” SP Aya said.
He further mentioned that Miller Dantawaye, the Commissioner of Police, had sent a tactical squad to the scene right away to hunt down the assailants.
“The Commissioner of Police has deployed a tactical squad to the area. We are currently on the trail of these men of the underworld and they will all be arrested,” he assured.
