The government under Sanwo-Olu has announced that a significant portion, 80%, of the buildings in Lekki lack proper approval, leading to the likelihood of more luxury homes being demolished.

Luxury homeowners in Lekki might face demolitions as the Lagos state government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reveals that 80% of the area’s buildings lack proper approval. Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, emphasized the necessity for proper zoning and approval processes. According to him, many estates in the region have been developed without adherence to regulations, leading to potential legal ramifications. Jide Odusolu of Octo5 Holdings highlighted how the master plan for Lekki got distorted post-2010 due to rapid, unregulated development. Femi Oyedele of Fame at Oyster & Co. Nigeria suggested that to improve the situation, approved estates along arterial roads might need to be demolished for planned infrastructure.
