United Bank for Africa (UBA) following the bank’s interim payout of 25 kobo per share for the first half of 2025. This payout solidifies his reputation as a top dividend earner in Nigeria.

How the Dividend Payout Breaks Down ????

Elumelu’s substantial dividend is a result of his extensive shareholdings in UBA. His direct stake of 1.5 billion shares will earn him approximately N375.4 million, while the remaining N1.3 billion will come from his indirect holdings of 5.2 billion shares. These indirect holdings are held through several investment vehicles, including:

HH Capital Limited

Heirs Holdings Limited

Heirs Alliance Limited

STH Limited

Eternal Properties

While the 25 kobo per share interim dividend is lower than the N2.00 per share paid in the first half of 2024, the sheer volume of Elumelu’s shares ensures a significant windfall. This latest payment continues a pattern of consistent, high-value dividends for the billionaire investor, who received an estimated N12.71 billion in dividends in 2024 and approximately N2.66 billion in 2022.

UBA’s Financial Performance

The dividend announcement comes alongside UBA’s half-year financial results for 2025. The bank reported a pre-tax profit of N388.4 billion, a slight dip from the N401.5 billion recorded in the same period last year. Despite this, the bank’s financial health remains strong, with key metrics showing robust performance.

Interest income surged by 32.9% year-on-year, reaching N1.3 trillion. The largest contributors to this income were treasury bills (N366.4 billion) and corporate term loans (N319 billion).

Total assets grew to N33.2 trillion, a notable increase from N30.3 trillion in December 2024.

Retained earnings also rose by nearly 13% to N1.6 trillion, indicating the bank’s ability to preserve capital and build a strong financial foundation.
