Osun State University Moves Transcript and Reference Letter Requests Online

Osun State University Moves Transcript and Reference Letter Requests Online

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has moved requests for academic transcripts, English proficiency letters and reference letters online, giving graduates and other eligible applicants a more convenient way to access essential academic documents without travelling to the institution.

The development, announced on October 6, 2026, forms part of the university’s efforts to improve administrative efficiency, reduce delays and make its Registry services accessible to people regardless of their location.

According to the university’s official announcement, alumni can now initiate requests for these documents through a dedicated online platform. The change is expected to reduce the time and financial burden associated with physical visits, particularly for graduates living outside Osun State or Nigeria.

For many graduates, obtaining academic records is an important step towards postgraduate admission, international study, employment and other professional opportunities. Moving the process online could make it easier for former students to begin their applications without the additional expense of travelling to the university.

UNIOSUN Digital Platform Targets Easier Access to Academic Records

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, announced the initiative, explaining that the digitisation of Registry operations was intended to simplify administrative procedures and improve service delivery.

Under the new arrangement, eligible applicants can begin their requests remotely through the university’s dedicated Registry portal. The services covered include academic transcripts, English proficiency letters, reference letters and other Registry-related requests.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye said the initiative reflected his administration’s commitment to maintaining a stronger connection with the university’s stakeholders and responding more effectively to their needs.

He emphasised that alumni should be able to access legitimate university services conveniently, irrespective of where they live.

The university also expects the digital process to reduce paperwork and improve the efficiency of Registry operations. Rather than depending on personal contacts or making an initial physical visit, graduates can use the online channel to commence their requests.

However, applicants should follow the instructions provided on the official portal for their specific document requests. The university’s announcement does not establish a guaranteed processing period for every application, so applicants should consult the platform for applicable requirements and further guidance.

How the Online Transcript and Reference Letter Requests Work

Graduates who need official academic documents can visit the UNIOSUN Registry portal to begin the relevant request. Applicants should select the service they require and follow the instructions provided by the university.

The change is particularly relevant to former students applying for postgraduate programmes, international scholarships or employment opportunities that require verified academic records. English proficiency letters and reference letters may also be relevant to applications where the receiving institution or organisation requests them.

For Nigerians living abroad, the option to initiate requests online could remove the need for an expensive journey to Osun State simply to begin an administrative process.

Nevertheless, applicants should confirm the applicable requirements, payment instructions, delivery arrangements and processing timelines directly through the official platform. They should also ensure that any document submission deadlines set by prospective schools or employers are taken into account.

UNIOSUN has encouraged alumni and other stakeholders to take advantage of the digital service as the institution continues to expand its use of technology in administrative operations.

Back Story: UNIOSUN’s Push Towards Digital University Services

Osun State University, established in 2006, operates across multiple campuses in Osun State and serves students from different parts of Nigeria and beyond. Its relationship with former students extends beyond graduation, particularly when alumni need official records for further education, career progression and other professional purposes.

The digitisation of Registry requests addresses one of the practical challenges graduates can encounter after leaving university: accessing official documents from a distance.

UNIOSUN’s move also reflects a wider need for Nigerian higher institutions to make administrative services more accessible through digital platforms. As academic and employment opportunities increasingly cross national borders, timely access to official records remains important for graduates seeking to compete for opportunities at home and internationally.

The university’s alumni services page identifies transcripts, replacement certificates, English proficiency attestations and other official documents among the services available to former students.

With its latest initiative, UNIOSUN is seeking to make access to these services more convenient while improving the responsiveness of its Registry. The long-term value of the change will depend on how effectively the online process handles applications, communicates requirements and delivers requested documents to eligible applicants.
