Wabara urges Tinubu to intervene and bring Wike under control to prevent unrest in Rivers State.
Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, recently urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and address the escalating tensions in Rivers State. He emphasized the need for intervention to prevent what he described as a “needless political crisis” sparked by the actions of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In his statement, Wabara expressed concern over the latest developments involving pro-Wike lawmakers and calls for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stressed the importance of maintaining stability in Rivers State due to its economic significance to Nigeria.
Senator Wabara appealed to President Tinubu to use his influence to promote peace and allow Governor Fubara to fulfill his duties without undue interference. He emphasized the potential consequences of any instability in Rivers State and called on all parties involved to prioritize peace.
Additionally, Senator Wabara addressed the challenges facing the PDP in Abia State, acknowledging the recent resignations of party members. He attributed these departures to issues within the party leadership and urged remaining members to remain steadfast and support efforts to rebuild the party.
Former PDP Chairman in Abia State, Senator Emma Nwaka, echoed similar sentiments, attributing the party’s collapse in the state to the failure of subsequent leadership to uphold party principles. He criticized party officials for relinquishing their authority to government officials and described the resigning members as “food-is-ready politicians.”
Both Wabara and Nwaka emphasized the importance of rebuilding the PDP in Abia State and urged members to remain committed to the party’s ideals. They called for unity and resilience in the face of challenges, highlighting the need for strong leadership and adherence to democratic principle
