Despite calls for financial prudence, the Akwa Ibom State Government is reportedly set to splash N1.020 billion to purchase vehicles for lawmakers, according to details contained in the 2025 budget document.
It was mentioned that the funds would be utilised to buy or maintain 26 cars for the 26 members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, a review shows that the constituency development project allocation for the state House of Assembly stood at zero naira for the 2025 fiscal year.
It will be recalled that the state government purchased thirty SUVs through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for N1.6 billion between January and September of 2024.
In addition, the state allocated an additional N3 billion for the purchase of 70 saloon cars through the Office of the Secretary. Between January and September of 2024, N3.6 billion was already spent for this goal.

The Office of the Secretary to the State Government once more allocated N6 billion in 2025 to buy a range of high-end automobiles.
Recently, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, gave luxury SUVs to all former deputy governors in the state.
According to the governor in a post on his official X handle, the SUVs were meant to appreciate “all former deputy governors” for their contributions to the state.
According to a SaharaReporters analysis of Akwa Ibom State’s approved budget for 2025, the state set aside N3 billion for the furnishing of a “Hotel apartment at Akwa Ibom State House, Abuja.”
This development coincides with the state government budgeting N1.2 billion for the celebration of Independence Day and the anniversary of the state’s creation, according to the report.
