The Olaleye sisters, Marianne, Fola, Yossie, and Lola, have propelled the beloved Nigerian delight, puff puff, into the global spotlight with their entrepreneurial drive. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, the sisters brought their family’s baking legacy to the United Kingdom when they moved there in 2007 for their education.
Inspired by their mother’s baking business, the sisters launched Puff Puff Ministry in August 2020, becoming the UK’s first dedicated West African dessert business. Armed with their mother’s cherished 20-year-old recipe, they aimed to make puff puff a beloved dessert in Britain.
Starting with a small Instagram page, Puff Puff Ministry quickly gained traction, expanding from North London to nationwide availability. Their commitment to quality and innovation shines through their diverse range of toppings, including vegan options and customizable boxes.
In 2022, their dedication earned them recognition as finalists for the Family Business Entrepreneur of the Year. Although a partnership with Aldi didn’t materialize, the experience showcased their determination to share Nigerian flavors on a national stage.
Beyond their business, the sisters offer Puff Puff masterclasses, sharing their expertise and ensuring puff puff lovers can replicate the authentic taste of Nigeria at home.
Individually, each sister brings unique skills to the table, from photography and brand strategy to urban planning, communication advising, and qualitative research with HR experience.
Puff Puff Ministry is more than just a business; it’s a celebration of tradition, family, and West African culinary heritage. Through their dedication and creativity, the Olaleye sisters have made an enduring impact.
