Ejiofor Onyia, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has confidently stated that the party will go ahead to have its convention in order to elect new leaders and regain its former grandeur despite contrary court order.
Onyia made this claim on Wednesday while answering questions during an interview on “Prime Time,” Arise Television program.
According previous reports, it is no news that the PDP has recently been severely damaged by a number of internal political conflicts.
The party is divided into two groups, one led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and devoted to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and chaired by Abdulrahman Mohammed, while the second is chaired by Umar Damagum.
“The convention will hold. Remember when we were having the issue of Secretaryship and there were court cases from all corners until the Supreme Court ruled that the courts were overstepping their bounds that they have no business in the internal affairs of the party.
“We should predicate our actions on the Supreme Court’s decision. The convention holds this weekend. We are heading to the convention, which holds this weekend in Ibadan.
“We will elect the next set of executives who will take over leadership and restore the PDP to its former glory,” he said.
