39 Year old Paystack Co-founder Ezra Olubi exposed , suspended for gross sexual misconduct

Social media, particularly x (formerly twitter) is currently abuzz over the story of 39 year old fintech company , Paystack founder Ezra Olubi of gross sexual misconduct among other bizzare allegations.

The controversial issue which has now escalated into a full blown scandal began on social media on Wednesday, after an ex lover identified as Maki who once had a relationship with Olubi shared personal complaints concerning Ezra Olubi online.

A brief backstory

Maki’s tweet brought a fresh attention to Ezra Olubi’s unsettling tweets from 2009 to 2013, many of which had sexually explicit content concerning coworkers and minors—back into the public eye.

Although Olubi’s X account has  since been deleted, social media trend showed his tweets were posted before he co-founded Paystack.

The tweets’ resurgence has sparked a public debate on personal behaviour, accountability, and the long-term effects of social media use.

Some of the resurfaced tweets drew widespread criticism, with one reading: “I judge my female friends by the sound of their pee make. Thanks to the audio in my bathroom,” while another stated: “Save water. Take a bath with your neighbour’s daughter.”

One of the tweets, posted on May 23, 2011, read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”

Recent Increase in child rape

Despite the fact that Ezra Olubi’s tweet are over a decade old, it has raised very crucial questions concerning his personality and additionally the multitude of users who engaged with such disturbing comments.

This development comes in a time when there is heightening cases of rape, child rape, sexual assaults among others with notable incident including the case of Ochanya who was raped by a father and daughter duo for years, eventually leading to her death, a 60+ year old man who raped a 6 year old in Taraba and an alleged father Enugu state based father  who raped and defiled his 2 daughters under 5 years among other cases.

These very wild and disturbing incidents have continued to worsen despite the senate’s bill to punish offenders caught with minors with a death penalty.

This recent development is not only a reason to question the character of Ezra Olubi but also a very disturbing dent on the reputation of Paystack as the fintech is widely known

Founded in 2015, Paystack was among the earliest African startups backed by Y Combinator, and its $200 million acquisition by Stripe in 2020 remains one of Africa’s landmark tech exits.

Following this development, Social media has seen massive public outrage calling out the fintech’s founder. While others have demanded accountability and a full investigation into the issue, others have pointed out that the said ex lover who shared concerns over Ezra is nothing but a bitter ex.

Paystack announces suspension

More recently, Paystack has the Stripe-owned Nigerian payments company, has officially announced the suspension of its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following these gruesome allegations.

Ezra Olubi exposed

In a statement the firm acknowledged the ongoing issue stating that “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation,”

“Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete,” Paystack added.

The firm further stated that it has established a “fair, transparent, and structured” review process to conduct a thorough investigation.

“This process is guided by our policies, our values, and our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees,” the firm added.

At the time of this report, Mr. Ezra Olubi is yet issue any public statement on the resurfaced tweets or the sexual misconduct allegations.
