Former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido
The recently elected national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed to former Jigawa State governor Alhaji Sule Lamido to put down his sword and support ongoing efforts to stabilise the party.

The call comes after Lamido blasted the party’s handling of its leadership crisis in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service and mentioned a lawsuit he filed in relation to the issue.

Speaking on the development, Umar Sani, a close friend of PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), stated that the former governor’s statements in the interview were false and needed to be clarified.

Speaking on the development, Umar Sani, a close friend of PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), stated that the former governor’s statements in the interview were false and needed to be clarified.

Sani claims that no court prohibited the PDP from conducting its national convention, refuting Lamido’s claim that the party disregarded court orders.

He clarified that the PDP had already filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, and that the court had simply ordered the party to permit Lamido to run for office following appropriate verification.

Contrary to Lamido’s claims that the party currently lacks legitimate leadership, Sani revealed that another court in Ibadan gave the party specific permission to hold its convention and noted that the procedure generated new national offices.

He urged the former governor to show maturity and prioritise the party’s unity over personal issues.

“Sule Lamido is a founding figure in the PDP. At this critical moment, what the party needs is cohesion, not prolonged litigation,” Sani said.
“If we remain trapped in court battles, victory will continue to elude us.”

The PDP leadership asked Lamido to collaborate closely with Chairman Turaki, emphasising that the two men can still steer the party away from internal strife and have long enjoyed friendly relations.

The appeal is being made at a time when the PDP is dealing with internal conflicts and criticism from the public on how it handled recent administrative and electoral problems.
