Concerns over the escalating internal conflict rocking the opposition party nationwide have increased as former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has requested an urgent meeting with key PDP players from Jigawa and Kano.

The Forum of Former PDP Local Government Chairmen in Jigawa encouraged Lamido to think about quitting the party if the current circumstances continue, and the meeting took place behind closed doors at his Kano office.

The Forum said the party was being consumed by what it described as a “deepening internal crisis,” which it blamed on failures in the party’s national leadership.

“We are worried about the direction the PDP is heading,” the Forum stated. “The national leadership has not only sidelined Sule Lamido but has also blocked him from contesting for the position of National Chairman. This kind of leadership style is tearing the party apart.”

Members of the Forum contended that the PDP’s chances in next elections are seriously threatened by long-standing splits, mistrust, and unsolved disagreements that have damaged the party’s organisation nationwide.

Following contentious congresses and a furious altercation between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike last week at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, their warning comes at a time when tensions within the PDP are already high.

Many party members feel that the leadership needs to take swift action as disagreements continue to escalate from Jigawa to the national level.

“The party needs urgent intervention,” an inside source said. “If something is not done now, we may see a major shift that will reshape the PDP.”
