He was moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja to the Sokoto Correctional Facility within hours, a decision that has sparked debate and anxiety.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered judgment in the long-running case against Kanu. The court found him guilty on seven terrorism-related counts brought by the Federal Government.
Kanu was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment on four of the counts (1, 4, 5, and 6). In addition, he was sentenced to 20 years and 5 years in jail for two further offences (3 and 7).

The prosecution had successfully established its case against him, according to the verdict.
Following this, Kanu was then transferred from DSS custody in Abuja to the Sokoto Correctional Facility a few hours after the conviction. Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s attorney, denounced the move, describing it as an effort to cut off Nnamdi Kanu from his supporters, family, and legal team.
