Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

Abubakr Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is to remain in custody until January 2, 2026, when his legal team will present his written bail application for consideration.

An oral bail request argued on Tuesday by Malami’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, was rejected by Justice Nwite, who ruled that granting it at this stage would amount to an ambush on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has brought Malami to trial.
Justice Nwite emphasized that since a written bail application has been filed, the interest of justice would be served by allowing the EFCC to respond as required by law.
