The Nigerian naira on Wednesday closed 2025 stronger against the US dollar, trading at N1,435.75 at the official foreign exchange market.

According to figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Naira increased by N9.93 at year’s conclusion, indicating ongoing resilience.

This came after the close of N1,445.68 on Tuesday, which represented a 0.7% daily increase.

According to a CBN official, “seasonal inflows supported stability during the yuletide,” and the trend was indicative of increased confidence and liquidity.

Market analysts stated that early 2026 trading will be guided by cautious optimism and that the persistent advances capped a strong festive week.

Parallel Market Performance

There are indications that the difference between the official rates and the parallel market, popularly known as the “black market,” is closing. The dollar was selling between ₦1,460 and ₦1,475 today, according to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in major hubs like Abuja (Wuse Zone 4) and Lagos (Ikeja and Broad Street).

The premium has remained far lower than the peaks seen earlier in the year, even though the parallel market is still marginally higher than the official window. The market’s aggressive speculative activity has decreased, according to traders, even though there is still retail demand for personal travel.

According to experts, the Naira may sustain its recent stability in the first quarter of the upcoming year provided present levels of oil production and foreign portfolio inflows are constant.
