Trump Withdraws the US From UN Bodies as America Cuts Ties With Global Organisations
The President of the United States of America (POTUS) has announced a major policy shift as he declared that his administration will pull America out of several United Nations bodies and other international organizations.
This political move by Trump starts up a fresh phase in the US retrenchment from global cooperation and has once again placed the Trump UN withdrawal decision at the center of global international discussions.
According to reports from the White House, the United States will exit from 66 international organizations and bodies, out of which 31 are linked to the United Nations. The government said it will also stop funding these bodies because they allegedly operate against America’s national interest, security, economic prosperity, and sovereignty.
Furthermore, the White House explained in a statement, “Many of these bodies promote radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological programs that conflict with U.S. sovereignty and economic strength.”
The United Nations’ Director for the International Crisis Group, Richard Gowan, said that the US withdrawal by Trump signals that they are stepping away from institutions that support international law, economic development, environmental cooperation, and gender rights.
Gowan also noted that since Trump returned to power, his administration has treated development and environmental cooperation as quasi-socialist agendas and has remained very critical of gender equality initiatives.
One of the notable organizations affected by Trump’s UN withdrawal is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a key scientific body that provides global climate research and policy guidance. The US will also withdraw from the Global Forum on Migration and Development, which played a role in shaping a 2018 UN migration compact that Trump rejected during his first term.
The UN Population Fund, which supports reproductive health and rights worldwide, is also on the new list of withdrawals. Trump had previously cut funding to the agency during his first term, with critics claiming the organization promotes abortion.
Other bodies the US is pulling out from are not widely known, including the International Cotton Advisory Committee, which supports cotton-producing nations and was founded in Washington nearly 90 years ago. This development further underscores the broad scope of Trump’s UN withdrawal decision.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the move, saying many international organizations serve what he described as a globalist agenda aimed at limiting American sovereignty. He added that their underlying goal is to constrain US independence rather than promote true cooperation.
The Trump UN withdrawal has continued to draw global reactions as observers watch how America’s exit from these bodies may reshape international relations and multilateral cooperation in the coming months.
