Tambuwal clarified that no such arrangement existed during his bid for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2019.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday evening, the former Sokoto State governor dismissed assertions that Wike requested to be chosen as his vice-presidential candidate.

He said: “Wike was my partner at the time, when I ran for the PDP presidential ticket in 2019, I and Wike didn’t have any pact (agreement) of him being my running mate.

“It has been said that he asked to be Vice President, but not at all. He never requested that, I must be fair to him.

“He never gave me any condition despite being my main backer that this is what he must take or must have.

“He identified me as someone young and who can do the job. I believed that it was about my class and not opportunism of going to manipulate.”
