Political activist Mahdi Shehu has criticised the Presidency’s explanation of President Bola Tinubu’s fall during an official event in Turkey, describing the account as unconvincing.

Shehu made the comment in a post on his X handle on Tuesday night, reacting to a statement attributed to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who said the president slipped after stepping on a metal object.
Casting doubt on the explanation, Shehu questioned how such an incident could occur at a venue that would have been thoroughly secured and screened ahead of a presidential appearance.
“Stepped on a metal object ? Excuse me. At a parade ground that must have been under security scrutiny for the past 7 days ? This is very unintelligent and unschooled narrative. Simply admit that he is too weak, sleepy, too fragile, too frail, too tired, too Geriatric for such a globetroating jamboree,” he said.

Recall that president Bola Tinubu stumbled on Tuesday during a welcome ceremony in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The incident occurred as he walked alongside Turkish President, Recep Erdogan.
However, a spokesman for the president, Bayo Onanuga, later said that Tinubu had stepped on a metal object on the floor, which made him lose his balance.
“This is not a big deal, except for those who want to make mischief out of a fleeting incident. It was a mere stumble, thank God, not a fall,” he added.
