On Sunday, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Bola Tinubu held a meeting behind closed doors at Aso Rock Villa.
According to The Nation, the meeting appeared private, as officials issued no statement afterward.
The former president has remained silent amid speculation about his potential political comeback in the 2027 presidential contest.
Recalls that the Peoples Democratic Party’s Tanimu Turaki-led faction announced on May 30 that they had submitted Jonathan’s name and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as their presidential candidate.
The move comes after several back and forth, court cases and disagreements between the Wike-led faction and Turaki-led faction of the PDP
However, the electoral commission conspicuously omitted Jonathan’s name from the list of 19 presidential contenders it released on Saturday.
Although sources cannot ascertain the details of the meeting between Jonathan and Tinubu at the moment, officials may have focused the discussion on the upcoming elections.
Makinde, Fayemi, Oyinlola visit Obasanjo in Abeokuta
Amid Jonathan and Tinubu’s private meeting, Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, former governor of Ekiti; Kayode Fayemi, and former governor of Osun; Olagunsoye Oyinlola, visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Makinde confirmed that the trio visited the former president at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, on Sunday.
According to him, the meeting covered a variety of national concerns ahead of the upcoming general election.

The meeting comes as political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 presidential election intensifies, with former President Goodluck Jonathan increasingly being projected as a consensus candidate by the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The faction has continued to campaign for Jonathan’s return to active politics, arguing that his candidacy offers the opposition its best chance of reclaiming power, despite the former president maintaining public silence on the growing calls.
The push for Jonathan has unfolded amid a deepening leadership crisis within the PDP, which remains divided between rival factions over the party’s direction and presidential ticket.
