Kemi Badenoch has been criticised by UK Prime Minister Starmer for her plans to have relevance.
On Wednesday, February 26, during a vibrant session, Starmer, in his intervention on Badenoch, roundly said this: ‘Well, she has always operated as though her country needed a self-appointed saviour of Western civilisation desperate for relevance’ in her sarcastic comment about the reductions in aid provision, specifically in his intervention on the defence budget.

She stated: My suggestions during the spawning part, concerning knights’ promotion and their exclusion from the aid budget, were assuredly accepted by the PM, and I am grateful that he had taken heed of them. He beat my expectations entirely and even broke the record as he gave the response even before I would have thought of rephrasing the speech; for example, I have never heard it so short as the Prime Minister.

“I did so, and I even went ahead to propose the reduction in the foreign aid budget for next year as well. But then again, he cuts the aid a week later, proceeds to announce a mere £13.4 billion for the enhanced forces in the last fiscal year. And the defence secretary this morning said the uplift is only £6 billion. Which is the accurate figure?”
Starmer in turn, pointed out that he, Badenoch, had never seen her proposal before when the amount was claimed.
Starmer said: “I’ll be honest with the leader of opposition. Unfortunately, she was far from any marrow of thought or Vision that I contemplated. Over the whole weekend, I was engaged and I never even saw her suggestion.
“She considers herself the redeemer of Western civilisation. She is trying to make herself relevant when it is impossible to be. If you add up the figures for this financial year and the figures for 27/28, that is one hundred thirteen point four billion pounds increase, the largest increase in defence spending ever sustained since the end of the Cold War.”
