IGP Approves New Uniforms, Kits for Police Officers Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the distribution of new uniforms and kits to personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the rank-and-file category, reaffirming his commitment to improving officers’ welfare and enhancing operational efficiency across the country.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to the statement, the initiative forms part of the IGP’s broader vision to improve working conditions, strengthen professionalism, and boost the morale of police personnel as they carry out their responsibilities of protecting lives and property.

Adejobi noted that the distribution of the kits and uniforms underscores the police leadership’s determination to ensure officers are adequately equipped and motivated to deliver effective service to Nigerians.

The police spokesperson added that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building a well-equipped, highly motivated, and professional workforce capable of addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.

Egbetokun Dismisses Claims of Conflicting Budget Documents

Meanwhile, the IGP has dismissed allegations that the Nigeria Police Force presented conflicting budget documents during its defence of the proposed 2025 budget before the National Assembly.

Speaking through ACP Adejobi in a statement released on Friday, Egbetokun described the controversy that emerged during a joint committee hearing on police affairs as “unnecessary and avoidable.”

According to the police chief, the confusion stemmed from a misunderstanding involving two versions of the budget presentation — a comprehensive version and an abridged version — both of which had been distributed to committee members before the hearing commenced.

“At the commencement of the session, committee members unanimously agreed that I should present the abridged version since all members already had access to both documents,” Egbetokun explained.

He stated that the misunderstanding arose when Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, arrived late to the session and began referencing the comprehensive version while the abridged version was being presented.

The IGP said members of the committee attempted to clarify the situation by explaining that both documents contained the same budget details and were not contradictory. However, the senator reportedly disagreed with the explanation and subsequently walked out of the session.

Egbetokun urged stakeholders to remain focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing security concerns rather than becoming distracted by avoidable disputes.

“This session was convened to chart a way forward for the security of Nigerians. I urge all stakeholders to remain focused on this shared objective and avoid distractions that do not contribute to improving national security,” the IGP said.

Commitment to Police Welfare and National Security

The approval of the new kits and uniforms comes as part of ongoing efforts by the police leadership to improve welfare packages, provide better working tools, and strengthen the capacity of officers nationwide.

Security analysts have repeatedly emphasised that improving the welfare and motivation of security personnel is critical to enhancing productivity, professionalism, and effective policing.

With the planned implementation of additional welfare initiatives under the 2025 budget, expectations remain high that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to prioritise reforms aimed at boosting operational effectiveness and public confidence in law enforcement.
