Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Rejects Claims of Sheltering Suspects

Ademola Adeleke has insisted that anyone involved in criminal activities, including members of his family, should be arrested and prosecuted.

The governor made the declaration on Friday while receiving the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Osogbo amid allegations that some wanted suspects were being sheltered within the premises.

Ademola Adeleke dismissed the claims that his administration was protecting criminals, stressing that no individual should be above the law regardless of personal ties.

According to him, any of his associates or even his son found culpable of any crime should be apprehended and made to face justice.

However, the governor accused certain police officers of misconduct, citing the alleged transfer of an officer who arrested a suspect connected to the killing of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu.

He argued that the officer had acted professionally under the directive of the Inspector-General and questioned the decision to transfer him after carrying out his duty.

Adeleke also commended the IGP for openly condemning indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the police, while urging officers to remain fair, professional, and impartial.

Earlier, Disu disclosed that the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, had informed him that some wanted suspects were allegedly hiding inside the Government House.

The Inspector-General noted that he had received several complaints about the conduct of the state police command and said he had advised the Commissioner on the appropriate steps to take.

He further revealed that reports suggested some political groups across the state might also be harbouring criminal suspects, stressing the need for thorough investigation and due process.
