Former senator Shehu Sani has urged Nigerians living in the United States who are hiding for fear of deportation to consider returning home to avoid possible arrest.

In a post shared on X on Saturday, Shehu Sani described reports of thousands of Nigerians going into hiding due to the activities of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as troubling, stressing that evading authorities is not a solution.
He advised those affected to act with dignity and explore voluntary return to Nigeria, noting that enforcement operations sometimes even affect U.S. citizens.
According to him, those who are opting for self-deportation have come to terms with the situation, adding that US President Donald Trump still has three years left in his tenure.
It was reported that Sani’s remarks come amid growing concerns over immigration enforcement and deportation in the United States.
He wrote: “The thousands of Nigerians reportedly going into hiding in the US out of fear of deportation by ICE should respect themselves and return home to avoid arrest.
“A situation where sometimes even the US citizens are not spared, hiding is not an option.Those who are self deporting have read and understood the reality.Trump has 3 more years for everyone.”
