The appointment was announced on Sunday by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu.
According to Kanu, Eke’s appointment forms part of an ongoing reorganisation by the state government aimed at restoring Enyimba to its rightful place among Africa’s elite football clubs.

The Abia State Government expressed concern over the club’s gradual decline from its once-dominant status, noting that Enyimba’s current position on the 2025/2026 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) table falls short of the club’s prestigious brand.
The statement further revealed that the new Sporting Director, Daniel Eke, is a product of Enyimba FC’s feeder team and has built an impressive career in football management and player development. He has served as the club’s Scouting Director since 2023.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the general public is hereby informed that Mr Uche Okechukwu is a duly appointed and sworn-in member of the Enyimba FC Board,” Kanu said.
