Former Pension Reform Task Team chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina, slumped on Tuesday evening while trying to gain access to his office premises in Abuja. This health incident saw him rushed to a private hospital in the Federal Capital Territory for urgent medical attention.
This development was disclosed in a press release dated Tuesday, 3 February 2026, and signed by his media assistant, Emmanuel Umahi Ekwe, Esq.

According to the statement, Abdulrasheed Maina’s health incident happened after complications from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose his balance while he was climbing the staircase to his office.
He reportedly fell during the episode, hitting his head on the stairs. Medical personnel at the scene quickly administered first aid before he was conveyed to a private medical facility in Abuja, where he is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation.
Medical personnel present at the scene are said to have promptly administered first aid before he was immediately conveyed to a private medical facility in Abuja, where he is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation.

The statement added that his family has appealed to members of the public to show understanding, offer prayers, and respect their privacy at this critical time. His media assistant also said further updates on the Abdulrasheed Maina health incident will be communicated as developments unfold.
This comes shortly after Maina regained freedom from the Kuje correctional center in Abuja, where he had been serving an eight-year jail term. In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on money laundering charges involving over N2 billion.
He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in October 2019 but pleaded not guilty to a 12-count charge. In his judgment, trial judge Okon Abang held that Maina stole over N2 billion belonging to pensioners, “most of whom have died without reaping the fruits of their labour”.

The judge also said the former PRTT chairman concealed his true identity as a signatory to bank accounts by using the identities of family members without their knowledge. Abang found him guilty on all 12 counts and sentenced him to a total of 61 years in prison, with the terms running concurrently from October 25, 2019.
Maina later appealed the ruling, but in May 2023, the Court of Appeal upheld both his conviction and the eight year sentence. As Nigerians react to the Abdulrasheed Maina health incident, many continue to follow developments surrounding his condition closely.
