All entertainment venues in the state, including gala houses and disc jockeys, also referred to as DJ operators, have been ordered to immediately cease operations by the Kano State Censorship Board following the start of Ramadan.
Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the board’s public relations officer, made the directive public in a statement on Tuesday.

“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centres) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day (today, Wednesday,” the statement said.
The board claims that the decision was made to permit locals to observe the Ramadan fast and engage in their religious activities in a quiet and undisturbed environment.

In line with the law that established the agency, the Board urged all parties involved to cooperate completely and follow the instructions.
It stated that the action is part of its responsibility to make sure that the rules governing entertainment in the state are strictly followed.

The board hoped that everyone would be able to experience the blessed month in mercy and prosperity, and that the holy month would be observed in a calm and healthy manner.
