Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over the alleged illegal invasion and search of his residence in Abuja.
The former governor named the ICPC as the first respondent in the originating motion on notice. The Chief Magistrate of the FCT’s Abuja Magisterial District, the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) were named as the second and fourth respondents, respectively.

El-Rufai named ICPC as the first respondent in the originating motion on notice, with the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), and the Chief Magistrate of the Magistrate’s Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Magisterial District, being named as the second and fourth respondents, respectively.
He claimed the operation violated his constitutional rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, and privacy.

El-Rufai requested seven reliefs in the lawsuit that Iyamu filed on February 20. He requested that the court rule that the search warrant that permitted the search and seizure at his home was void.
Additionally, his lawyer argued that the warrant had mistakes in the address, date, and district information and did not specify exactly what was to be seized. He claimed that because it did not comply with the law, the entire search was unlawful.

He also seeks an order compelling the ICPC and the Inspector-General of Police to immediately return all items taken from his home, along with a detailed inventory.
