Kemi Badenoch has urged the United Kingdom (UK) to take decisive steps in response to rising tensions in the Middle East, following what she described as attacks linked to Iran on UK bases in the region.

Kemi Badenoch, who leads the opposition and heads the Conservative Party, made the call while speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program. Her comments come amid growing concerns over security and the role of Western allies in addressing the crisis.

According to Kemi Badenoch, the UK must act swiftly alongside the United States to prevent further escalation.

“We need to do everything we can to stop these attacks from happening.

“I think we should listen to what our allies in the region are saying. Even if we’re not talking about Iran, Cyprus feels like we haven’t been helpful. It’s surprising that Bahrain and Kuwait, which are part of the UAE, are openly criticizing us.

“They think that we’re abandoning them. If your main idea is that we will only take action when we are attacked instead of handling possible dangers as they come, then we will end up in a lot of trouble.”

Her remarks have sparked debate across political circles, with some questioning whether stronger military involvement would escalate tensions further.

When asked about concerns surrounding her support for possible British involvement in bombing Iran, Kemi Badenoch clarified her position, stressing that her stance was rooted in realism rather than aggression.

“Being realistic doesn’t mean being overly eager. I don’t want a wider war. Sometimes the best way to calm a situation down is to try to finish it quickly, instead of letting it go on and on because you don’t want to get involved.”

Observers say Kemi Badenoch’s comments highlight the increasing pressure on the UK government to define its foreign policy stance clearly as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
