The Rivers State House of Assembly has summoned all nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council for screening and confirmation.

According to a statement signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, the nominees are required to appear at the Rivers State House of Assembly Chamber, Assembly Quarters, Port Harcourt, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Last Friday, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, explained that the delay in screening the nominees was due to only seven of them having submitted their CVs and credentials for the process.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara had, on Monday last week, submitted nine names to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.
This development comes as political tensions in the state have eased following a third intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had, for the third time, initiated an impeachment process against the governor, this time also including the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
However, the House suspended the process following the president’s intervention.
