Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the president lacks the stamina to lead Nigeria effectively.
Obi urged Tinubu to withdraw his bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that the country requires a leader with the energy and capability to address its growing challenges.
Speaking at the state secretariat in Bayelsa during the homecoming of former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Obi stated that Nigeria cannot afford a leader who lacks the vitality needed to govern successfully.
Speaking further, he also criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government for plunging Nigeria into poverty, hunger, unemployment, insecurity, poor healthcare and inadequate electricity supply.
“Today, we have a country that produces the highest number of poor people in the world. Today, we have a country where our people are hungry. Nigerians don’t know where the next meal will come from,” he said.
Obi assured Bayelsa residents that the NDC offers Nigerians a new alternative capable of guaranteeing development across all sectors nationwide.
“We are telling you that NDC is coming to build a new Nigeria that is possible. We want to move Nigeria from consumption to production. We will start by uniting the country,” he said.
‘’We pledged that an NDC administration would tackle insecurity, strengthen public institutions and ensure that Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic or geographical backgrounds, felt a sense of belonging.’’
Backstory…
Peter Obi has repeatedly called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside, accusing his administration of failing to address Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.
In July 2026, Obi first described Tinubu as “tired” and lacking the capacity to govern, urging him to retire.
However, the APC dismissed his earlier remarks, insisting Tinubu remained active and capable of discharging his presidential duties.
